PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal sensor system and method based on a current ratio capable of accurately measuring the temperature in a wide temperature range.SOLUTION: A thermal sensor system includes: a voltage control network; a current gain network; a current compare sensor; and a controller. The voltage control network generates a reference current signal and a corresponding delta current signal in response to application to a thermal sensor. The current gain network is configured to adjust a gain in the delta current signal relatively to the reference current signal. The current compare sensor is configured to provide a comparison metric. In the controller, selected reference voltage and delta voltage levels correspond to a selected temperature subrange among a plurality of temperature subranges. In monitoring the comparison metric to determine a gain differential value indicative of a current ratio between the reference current signal and the delta current signal, the controller controls the current gain network to adjust the gain of the delta current signal to determine a temperature value on the basis of the gain differential value.
