The present invention relates to an electric power steering apparatus which controls stable driving of a motor. The electric power steering apparatus comprises: an inverter unit for controlling driving of the motor when a plurality of switching elements are turned on or off; a gate driving unit which generates a control signal for turning on or off each of the switching elements, transmits the control signal to the inverter unit, and outputs a short-circuit detection signal between the motor and a power supply or between the motor and ground; a short-circuit detection error removing unit for converting and outputting the short-circuit detection signal into a detection error removing signal in order to prevent an error in short-circuit detection by the short-circuit detection signal; and an electronic control unit for determining whether or not the motor is short-circuited based on the detection error removing signal received from the short-circuit detection error removing unit.
