PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a mounting direction of a book original in an image reading apparatus which reads the book original.SOLUTION: A multifunction machine with an image reading apparatus, includes a platen glass and a reading unit, which reads a book original mounted on the platen glass in a spread state by the reading unit (S6 and S18), obtains gradation value distribution in a main scanning direction or a sub-scanning direction by analyzing the obtained pre-scanned image (S8 and S20), detects whether a predetermined valley shape is present in the obtained gradation value distribution (S10 and S22), and identifies a mounting direction of the book original if there is the valley shape, on the basis of the direction of gradation value distribution in which the valley shape is detected. |
