PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer head control device, a printer, and a cleaning method which can perform efficient printing processing and secure good print quality.SOLUTION: The printer includes: a head control unit 10 that supplies driving current to a thermal head 4 that performs printing on a sheet P by supplying heat energy to an ink ribbon 3, in which the ink ribbon 3 and the sheet P are put between a platen roller 2 and the thermal head 4; a lifting part 11 for lifting the thermal head 4 with respect to the platen roller 2; and a driving control unit 12 for executing lifting of the thermal head 4 for cleaning on the basis of an integrated value of the heat energy amount supplied to the ink ribbon 3 from the thermal head 4.
