PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device which detects an object on the basis of a photographic image, and a monitoring system.SOLUTION: A monitoring device 100 is provided which comprises: a capturing section 120 for capturing a photographic image from a photographing section 110 which photographs an object and generates the photographic image; a control section 140 for controlling an irradiation section 130 which irradiates the object with a plurality of light beams in respectively different directions; a recognition section 142 which recognizes an image of shadow generated by irradiating the object with the plurality of light beams from the irradiation section; and a detection section 144 which detects the object at least on the basis of the shadow recognized by the recognition section. |
