PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain stains from being caused in a transfer part on the surface of a roll-shaped metal mold even when the surface of the roll-shaped metal mold is treated with a water-based lubrication treatment liquid having the volatilization rate lower than that of a solvent-based lubrication treatment liquid.SOLUTION: A method for coating the surface of a roll-shaped metal mold body 6 with the water-based lubrication treatment liquid 2 comprises: an immersion step of immersing the metal mold body 6 in the water-based lubrication treatment liquid 2 in which a treatment liquid is dissolved; and a withdrawal step of lowering the liquid level of the water-based lubrication treatment liquid 2 relatively to the metal mold body 6 to expose the metal mold body 6 from the liquid level of the water-based lubrication treatment liquid 2. Air is blown against an exposed part of the metal mold body at the same time when the surface of the metal mold body 6 is exposed from the liquid level during the time to carry out the withdrawal step.
