[Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A connector device comprises a base plate 10 which is formed with two hooks 12, 14 one at each end the hooks being of different type to engage two different forms of anchorage, a pivoted clamping jaw 30 detachably mounted on the base-plate so as to be reversible end to end and two lateral slots 40 in the base-plate straddling the jaw 30. A plurality of such devices are used for attaching a carrier to the outside of a motor vehicle, the carrier having a number of straps each of which is connected to one of the devices. The hook 14 is intended for attachment to a boot lid and the hook 12 for engagement with the underside of guttering on the roof. The guttering hook 12 has associated with it, in one form, a bracket 18 which engages the inside of the gutter and which is tightened against the gutter by a bolt and wing- nut. In another form two screws 26 are used which pass through holes in a ledge 28 of the base plate so that their ends bear against the inside of the gutter. The strap end is secured to the device by means of the pivoted clamping jaw 30 which is mounted between lugs 32 of a sheet metal strip 33. The strip is held in place on the plate 10 by its ends 36 engaging grooves 38 formed by tongues bent from the plate. In bending the tongues the lateral slots 40 are formed through which the strap end can pass. The grooves 38 enable the strip 33 to be reversed so that the desired hook can be used. The base plate is also provided with holes 42 and 44 so that it can be secured directly to the carrier instead of by means of a strap. |
