PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous pigment dispersion, in which coarse particles of poor dispersion can be greatly reduced and its good dispersion state can be maintained even in a long-term storage, and a water-based ink for ink jet recording which has excellent discharge stability.SOLUTION: A method for producing an aqueous pigment dispersion and a water-based ink for ink jet recording includes: a kneading step in which a mixture containing a quinacridone pigment (a), an anionic group-containing organic polymer compound (c), a basic compound (d), and a water-soluble organic compound (e) whose hydrogen bond term δh of a solubility parameter is from 7 to 13, is kneaded to prepare a pigment dispersion which is solid at normal temperature; and a mixing step to mix the pigment dispersion with an aqueous medium. |
