<p>4,8-Di-tert-butyl-2,10-dimethoxy-6-(3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-2'-(2,4,8,10-tetramethyldibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepin-6-yloxy)biphenyl-2-yloxy)dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepine (I) are new. 4,8-Di-tert-butyl-2,10-dimethoxy-6-(3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-2'-(2,4,8,10-tetramethyldibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepin-6-yloxy)biphenyl-2-yloxy)dibenzo[d,f][1,3,2]dioxaphosphepine of formula (I) are new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) preparing (I), comprising (i) carrying out oxidative coupling of 2,4-dimethylphenol to obtain 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl, (ii) carrying out oxidative coupling of 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole to obtain 5,5'-dimethoxy-3,3'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl, (iii) reacting 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl obtained from the step (i) with phosphorus trichloride under inert gas atmosphere to obtain phosphorochloridite derivative, and (iv) reacting at least 2 equivalents phosphorochloridite derivative obtained from the step (iii) with 1 equivalent 5,5'-dimethoxy-3,3'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl obtained from the step (ii) under inert gas atmosphere; (2) complex compounds of formula (II); (3) complex compounds of formula (III); (4) a mixture comprising (II) and/or (III) and (I); (5) a composition comprising the above mixture, and a further component which comprises bases, organic amines, buffer solutions, epoxides or ion exchangers; and (6) hydroformylating an unsaturated compound or a mixture of unsaturated compounds, comprising (a) providing (I) or the above composition, (b) introducing a gas mixture which comprises carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and (c) adding at least one unsaturated compound or a mixture of unsaturated compounds.
