The method involves placing one or more vacuum exhausts (4) on an upper cover layer (2) in the area of a cutting edge (8), so that the vacuum exhausts are formed effectively. The compressed air is supplied between the upper cover layer and a lower cover layer (3) of a fiber reinforced material (1) in the area of the cutting edge through a compressed air nozzle (7). A coolant supply is arranged such that the area lying inside the vacuum exhaust is cooled far below a room temperature by the effect of the coolant, additionally or independent from a compressed air supply (6). An independent claim is included for an apparatus for partial or complete separation of the protective film of fiber-reinforced composites.
