<p>The deformation element (1) is arranged between a bumper cross beam (4) and a frame longitudinal beam, which is made of fiber reinforced material like a tube. Two stiffness transitions are formed during crash in its deformation direction (P). The stiffness transitions are made by change of the cross-sectional surface or the wall thickness. A section of higher stiffness (3) in the deformation direction lies below a section of lower stiffness (2). A device is provided for reducing the stiffness of the under-lying section after a deformation or destruction of the section of lower stiffness.</p> |
