PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate some problems that an amount of particulate matter (PM) is increased under much amount of deposition at a piston due to a low fuel temperature in the case of cold engine and irrespective of promotion of gasification through fuel injection during a period ranging from a closed state of an exhaust valve to an opened state of an intake valve and reduction of deposition at the piston, deterioration of exhausting and fuel consumption occurs due to increased amount of residual gas under adaptation by an advance angle of the exhaust valve only when the fuel injection period is extended.SOLUTION: In cold engine conditions for a cylinder direct injection engine, a period ranging from a closing time of an exhaust valve to an opening time of an intake valve is defined as a fuel injectable period, and the fuel injection period is set in such a way that all or almost fuel can be injected during the fuel injectable period. An exhaust valve closing time, an intake valve opening time and a fuel injection time under a condition in which the fuel injection period becomes minimum are applied as reference values, and an exhaust valve advance angle from a reference position is defined as α[deg], an intake valve delay angle is defined as &bgr;[deg], and an increased amount of fuel injection period is defined as γ[deg], so that both intake valve and exhaust valve are controlled in such a way that as γ is increased, α+&bgr; may also be increased, and &bgr;>α may be attained under a condition in which γ, the maximum limit of an applicable range, becomes maximum. |
