PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an art of easily performing panoramic photography including a photographer as a subject.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus including photographing means and synthesizing means for synthesizing a plurality of images photographed by the photographing means comprises: subject detection means for detecting a subject from an image photographed by the photographing means; background extraction means for extracting a background region from the plurality of images on the basis of the detection result by the subject detection means; background image creation means for synthesizing the images from which the background regions are extracted so as to link the images to create a background image having wider field angle than that of each of the plurality of images; and panoramic image synthesizing means for selecting the image from which the subject is detected and synthesizing the selected image with the background image created by the background image creation means to create a panoramic image.
