Disclosed are an image monitoring apparatus for estimating the size of a singleton, and a method therefor. An embodiment of the present invention relates to an image monitoring apparatus for estimating the size of a singleton, and a method therefor. More specifically, provided are an apparatus and a method for monitoring an image, the method comprising: generating object information regarding a foreground object moving within a filmed image filmed by means of an image filming apparatus; removing noise and aggregating by means of the generated object information; detecting a singleton from among the aggregated objects; and estimating the surface area and the size of the singleton by means of a predetermined function.
