<p>999,308. Mixing liquids. DAYCO CORPORATION. Jan. 25, 1962, No. 2882/62. Heading B1C. An apparatus for the continuous mixing of liquids, especially the components of polyurethane resins, comprises a mixing head formed in two partly symmetrical sections 1, 1<SP>1</SP> hinged together at 2a and clamped by a bolt 26<SP>11</SP>, the halves 8a, 8<SP>1</SP>a of a mixing chamber 8 being formed in the respective meeting faces. The mixing chamber has a stirrer rod 75 possessing arcuate lands 76a and rotated by an air motor 77, Fig. 1 (not shown), carried by the mounting ring 76. In each mixing head section one of the mixture components is introduced through a fitting as at 19a and passes by a duct 17, a bore 21 in a rotatable plug cock 20, a duct 18 and a nozzle 19 to the mixing chamber ; part is also recirculated through the duct 23 and pipe 25. A heat exchange fluid such as hot oil is circulated through the pipe 53 and duct 9. Cleaning fluid is supplied through the pipe 52 and when it is desired to purge the apparatus the plug cock 20 is turned to align the bore 21 with the ducts 13, 14 and connect the bore 22 between the ducts 16, 18. The plug cocks 20, 20<SP>1</SP> may be turned further to cut off supply to the mixing chamber of both mixture components and cleaning fluid, when the mixing head may be opened for mechanical cleaning while permitting the mixture components to continue to recirculate through the pipes 25, 25<SP>1</SP>.</p> |
