A method and system for IKE packet negotiation. The method comprises: a standby device updates the value of a stored third identifier according to an update notification of an active device, wherein the update notification of the active device is sent after the active device updates a stored second identifier; when the standby device is switched to a new active device, the new active device sends to a peer device a second packet for negotiating Internet protocol security (IPSec) information according to the updated third identifier, wherein the third identifier is an identifier stored in the standby device for learning the status information about the active device. The method solves the problem of long-time service interruption resulting from switching between an active device and a standby device.
