PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a liquid discharge head and an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing occurrence of cavitation when a plurality of droplets are discharged from a same nozzle of a liquid discharge head in one printing cycle and are made to coalesce with one another to form one dot before landing on a recording medium.SOLUTION: In the driving method of the liquid discharge head (12), when a driving signal including N (≥2) jetting pulses are applied to the liquid discharge head to form N droplets and the N droplets are made to coalesce with one another before landing on a recording medium, for jetting pulses P(i-1) and P(i) (i≥2 and i≤N) among N(≥2) jetting pulses, an application interval X is made to be 1.75 Tc≤X≤2.25 Tc (Tc represents a reference resonance period of the liquid discharge head (12)). In addition, driving voltage of the jetting pulse P(i) is made higher than the driving voltage of the jetting pulse P(i-1) to make the N droplets coalesce with one another before landing on the recording medium. |
