The method involves operating an actuator by a shape memory element made of a shape memory alloy that comprises a nonlinear martensite portion temperature curve. The increase of nonlinear martensite portion temperature curve is computed and the control parameter of a control circuit is adjusted with respect to the increase of nonlinear martensite portion temperature curve. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) actuator; and (2) computer-program product for controlling position of actuator.
