The element (1) has a base plate (2), a rear wall (3) connected with the plate and a slot-shaped device (4). The wall has a recess (7) that is connected with the slot-shaped device. The recess accommodates a fastening element for fastening the shelf element to a fixed device e.g. wall. The slot-shaped device has a groove formed in a surface of a narrow side of the wall and extends over entire circumference of the wall. The base plate is provided for storing objects e.g. books, on the shelf element, where the shelf element is connected with another shelf element by connection elements. An independent claim is also included for a fastening element for fastening a shelf element to a wall.
