Abstract This invention relates generally to transferring application-specific data between applications, and more particularly, to transferring web browser data between web browsers. One aspect of the invention provides a computer-implemented method comprising: receiving a request to export data associated with a first web browser; detecting, based on the received request, selection of at least one setting from a plurality of settings associated with the data associated the first web browser; obtaining a portion of the data associated with the first web browser, where the obtained portion of the data corresponds to the at least one setting, and where the obtained portion of the data is associated with a first format; packaging the obtained portion of the data into a second format, that is different than the first format, to form transformed data, where the second format is adapted to be imported by a second web browser; assigning a tag to each of one or more data items included in the obtained portion of the data, each tag representing a data type of a corresponding one of the one or more data items; and storing the transformed data and the tag assigned to each of the one or more data items on a storage system. |
