PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce variation in brightness and contrast.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device includes: a substrate; a base substance arranged opposite to the substrate; a liquid crystal layer held between the substrate and the base substance; and an inorganic alignment layer provided between the substrate or the base substance and the liquid crystal layer. On the surface on the liquid crystal layer side of the substrate or the base substance, a protrusion part is provided which protrudes in a direction toward the liquid crystal layer from the inside of the substrate or the base substance. The inorganic alignment layer has a recess part formed in such a manner that at least a part of a portion of the inorganic alignment layer, the portion corresponding to an edge of the protrusion part, is recessed from liquid crystal layer toward the inside of the substrate or the base substance in a planar view seen from a normal direction of the surface on the liquid crystal layer side of the substrate or the base substance.
