Provided is a method whereby rare earth elements can be separated from a rare earth magnet in a simple manner with a high separation rate, and a separating device for carrying out said method. The rare earth element separation method according to the present invention is a method for separating rare earth elements from a magnet material containing a plurality of rare earth elements, the method comprising the steps of preparing a starting powder composed of a powder of a rare earth magnet, producing an oxide powder of the magnet material component from the starting powder, separating a powder of a plurality of rare earth oxides from the oxide powder of the magnet material component, adjusting the grain size of the separated powder of rare earth oxides, mixing together the sized powder of rare earth oxides and a chloridation agent powder, producing a chloride/oxychloride mixture from an oxide/chloridation agent mixture, selectively extracting the rare earth chlorides from the chloride/oxychloride mixture into a solvent, and solid-liquid separating a liquid phase from which the rare earth chlorides have been extracted and a solid phase of the remaining rare earth oxychlorides. |
