The hydraulic chain tensioner (10) has a housing (20) in which a defined leakage gap (30) is provided at the housing inner space (22). A piston (40) is accommodated in the leakage gap. A non return valve (50) is arranged to flow the hydraulic fluid into the housing inner space. A clamping element (60) is provided to tension the chain. The piston is made of a material with greater thermal expansion coefficient than the material of housing.
