The unit (2) has a surge arrester (14) for deriving over-voltage light-produced by a rail vehicle against a ground (12). A fixing unit (6) fixes the surge arrester at a vehicle element (4). An insulation housing (34) partly surrounds the surge arrester. The insulation housing comprises a high voltage-side connector (16). The insulation housing is provided with an interface (24) in an outward direction for releasably fastening a conductor (10). The surge arrester is electrically connected with the interface via a connection unit (30). The connection unit comprises a flexible current conductor.
