A locking assembly for pivot windows and doors allows a handle to be turned between two extreme positions causing a sash or door to be held within a limited range of positions and, on releasing a lock, the handle to be turned to a further position, whereby a latch is released to permit free movement of the sash or door. As shown in Fig. 3 a latch 3 is mounted on the sash 6 and engages in a bracket 7, Fig. 1, or link 7a, Fig. 2 (not shown) rigidly or pivotally attached to a window frame 5, the latch 3 being connected to a handle operated connecting rod 18 by means of a control plate 12 having a shaped slot 13, Fig. 4, in which a pin 14 is engaged to transmit the motion from the control plate 12 to the latch 3 in a perpendicular direction to the longitudinal rod 18. The arrangement is such that depending upon the selected handle position the pin 14 may engage a position within A-B in the slot 13 on the control plate in which the latch 3 continues to penetrate into the recess 8 or 8a, Fig. 2 (not shown) holding the sash 6 in position or the pin may engage position C, after a lock on the sash 6 has been released, allowing the latch 3 to be withdrawn from the recess 8 or 8a, Fig. 2 (not shown) to free the sash 6. The locking and actuating mechanism may be adapted for both vertical and horizontal connecting rods 18 on doors or windows suspended along the vertical or horizontal axis. The control mechanism for actuating the rod 18 consists of two toothed actuators 25, Fig. 6, connected to the rod 18 by means of links 26 which are displaced when the actuators are turned by the handle and are retained by means of the locking pawl 30 in order to hold the sash in position but the sash may be freed, only when the locking pawl 30 is lifted by means of a key. |
