A hydrocarbon feed boiling at at least 350 DEG F·is is hydrocracked in the presence of 0.3-20 mole per cent of one or more C3-C8 olefinic hydrocarbons and hydrogen or a hydrogen-affording gas. The catalyst employed may be a Group VIII metal hydrogenation component and a solid acidic cracking component with or without an activity control element selected from arsenic, antimony, sulphur, mercury, lead and copper. Catalysts specified are sulphided nickel or arsenided nickel on a silica alumina support. Reaction conditions specified are temperatures of 450-750 DEG F., pressures of 200-2000 p.s.i.g., L.H.S.V. of 0.1-10 volumes of feed/volume of catalyst, and hydrogen feed of 1000-10,000 s.c.f. of hydrogen/barrel of hydrocarbon feed.
