A door operating mechanism for a folding door, composed of inner and outer leaves 1 and 2 hinged at 3 along their adjacent vertical edges, comprises a reversible power unit 10 e.g. an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic motor mounted on leaf 1 and having coupled to it an operating lever arm 14 capable of being rotated in a horizontal plane, and provided at its free end with a roller 16 which engages an inverted U- shaped track 17 screwed to leaf 2 and extending horizontally along the top of leaf 1. Rotation of the arm by the drive unit alters the relative angular relation between the leaves of the door from the closed in line position to the open folded position, fig. 2 (not shown). The outer edge of leaf 2 is guided by a pivot mounting 8 in an overhead track 9 fixed to the upper door frame edge. The roller 16 may be disengaged from the track 17 to facilitate manual operation of-the door. The door may be provided with other features not fully described such as a slipping clutch or other mechanism to prevent damage to the door if obstructed, latching means e.g. solenoid-operating locking bolts 22, for retaining the door in its open or closed position and a time delay mechanism to close the door a pretermined time interval after its opening. |
