1,008,117. Wood joints. CROWN ZELLEBACH CORPORATION. Aug. 29, 1963, No. 34291/63. Heading A4H. [Also in Division B5] A joint formed between the ends of two aligned boards 11, 12 of longitudinally grained lumber comprises several fingers formed by lateral compression of the wood and situated across opposing ends of the boards at complementary staggered positions, the fingers of the two boards 11, 12 being located in intermeshing side by side positions across opposing ends thereof. Bonding means, e.g. liquid or film glues, animal, vegetable or synthetic base glues or thermosetting or thermoplastic glues, is applied to the surfaces of the fingers to secure together the adjacent fingers of the two boards. The fingers are formed by forcing the ends of the boards 11, 12 against an impressor 10 which compresses the fibres laterally between fingers 13, 14 formed on its surface. Rectangular slots 12b, Fig. 3, may be cut in the ends of the boards before using the impressor to form the fingers 12c. |
