Aqueous binder comprises (a) at least one polymer containing 5-100 wt.% of at least one alpha ,beta -monoethylenically unsaturated mono-or dicarboxylic acid in a polymerized form, which is obtained by radical polymerizable process; (b) at least one polyol compound with at least two hydroxyl group; and (c) at least one salt compound, which has a solubility of >= 10 g in 100 g of deionized water at 20[deg] C and 1 absolute atmosphere. An independent claim is included for producing a molded body from granular and/or fibrous substrates comprising applying the aqueous binder on the granular and/or fibrous substrate, optionally contacting the aqueous binder treated granular and/or fibrous substrates and thermally treating the granular and/or fibrous substrate at >= 110[deg] C.
