The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for optimizing an operating frequency of an ultrasonic sensor. The apparatus for optimizing the operating frequency of the ultrasonic sensor according to the present invention finds the optimum operating frequency at each sensor cell using the transmission rising down time of an ultrasonic wave. According to the present invention, a malfunction rate due to the environmental factors and the performance deviation of an ultrasonic sensor cell is reduced. Especially, a driver accurately receives a parking guide by reducing the malfunction rate due to the environmental factors and the performance deflection of the ultrasonic sensor cell of a parking assistance system (PAS).
