<p>A method for identifying cell features, such as cell boundaries, in initial image data representing a sample of organic material. The method comprising the steps of: filtering the initial image data using a first nonlinear 5 diffusion filter; segmenting the filtered image data using a second nonlinear diffusion filter to provide output image data which indicates identified cell features; wherein using at least one of the first and second nonlinear filters comprises using an edge preserving function which is operable on each image data element in a respective set of input image data, the strength of which function is dependent on a scalar parameter. The method may comprise the further step of optimising the scalar parameter. The method may also include particular techniques for cleaning and generating a seed surface for further processing.</p> |
