A system for effecting data communications over a wireless power link between a secondary side electronic device 100 and a primary side power supply 10, the primary side comprising a tank circuit 23, a controller 18, a detector circuit 24 and a main power supply 12. Power is supplied to the tank circuit 23 by AC input 12 through switching circuit 20, which then generates an electromagnetic field that induces power in a corresponding coil 102 in the secondary electronic device 100. Communication is achieved through backscatter modulation by toggling a load 108 on the secondary side to produce variations in the input power of the primary side tank circuit. A detector 224 produces a signal indicative of the current in the input power, which is then passed through a band pass filter. The filtered signal is amplified and fed to a comparator, which produces high and low signals which are processed by controller 18 as a binary data stream. The system offers improved reliability by providing a better signal to noise ratio. |
