An application and inspection system comprises an application system for applying sealing compound to an edge region of a can end (1). The application system includes means for rotating the can end and application means (5) relative to each other to as to apply sealing compound to an edge region of the can end. An inspection system (7) is provided for determining the integrity of the sealing compound applied to the can end. The inspection system includes means for directing a source (9, 11, 13) of radiation towards an edge region of the can end as the can end rotates relative to the inspection system. The inspection system also includes means for detecting radiation originating from the radiation source and reflected from the can end. The source of radiation is directed at the can end at a location upstream of a location at which the sealing compound is applied. |
