The appliance has a hinge device for a pivotally mounted door (2), and a centerboard (6) rotatably supported in a hinge cabinet via a hinge axis. The hinge device is designed such that hinge device alters a layer in the appliance by the door. The cabinet is held by an elastic element i.e. plate spring, in a work position such that the elastic element pushes the cabinet in a downward direction with a force. A guide element is supported for tensioning levers connected with a counterweight spring. The guide element is formed as the axis protruding via a side wall of the cabinet. An independent claim is also included for a method for displacing a door of a household appliance.
