<p>A two-component polymerizable adhesive composition comprises a monomeric ester of a -cyanoacrylic acid of the general formula <FORM:1011287/C3/1> wherein R is an alkyl group containing up to 16 carbon atoms, a cyclohexyl group, a phenyl group or an alkenyl group, and a monomeric vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon having the formula:- <FORM:1011287/C3/2> wherein R1 is hydrogen, or methyl, and each of X and Y is hydrogen, halogen, a lower alkyl group, an alkenyl group or a vinyl group, the weight of the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon being greater than 50% of the weight of the total weight of monomeric compounds in the composition and the ratio of the molar quantity of the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon to that of the monomeric ester of a -cyanoacrylic acid being not greater than three. The monomeric ester of a -cyanoacrylic acid may be methyl-, 2 - ethylhexyl- or neopentyl - a - cyanoacrylate. The monomeric vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon may be styrene, a -methylstyrene, p-vinyltoluene, 2,4-dimethylstyrene, o-chlorostyrene, 2,4-dichlorostyrene or divinylbenzene.</p> |
