[Class 110 (iii)] In the outer rotor of a contra-rotational gas turbine or air-compressor, the blade rings are assembled on foundation rings 3a-7a, at their inner ends and are connected to the rotor shell 8 by smooth pins or rivets 11 on some or all of the, outer ends of the blades. Each shell section 8 has one such blade row connected to it at the middle and adjacent sections may clamp between them driving rings 17 to which the blades of other rows are similarly attached. The driving rings 17 may be keyed to the rotor sections. The foundation rings which have conical outer surfaces are slotted axially to receive the blade roots. The rings are initially broader than the length of the blade roots : the roots are pushed into the slots until the rivets or pins are fully entered in the shell section or driving ring and then the foundation rings are machined to size. The inner rotor shown is formed in accordance with Specification 586,561. Specifications 586,552, 586,553, 586,562 and 586,564 also are referred to. |
