The device (1) has a display (2) i.e. LCD, or LED display, for displaying information e.g. temperature and time, and a rotating lever (3) for accommodating the display and rotated opposite to the display. A transfer member (14) transfers rotating movement of the rotating lever on a valve shaft (13) of a gas valve (12) of a gas-heated cooking device. The rotating lever drives the transfer element by using a transmission (17). The transmission has two toothed wheels, where two of the toothed wheels are designed as spur wheels supported at a supporting element (37) in a torque-proof manner. The transmission is designed as a reduction gear or set-up gear unit.
