Layers of wood, paper, or like material to be laminated together and simultaneously bent or shaped are assembled with intervening layers of a cold-seting synthetic resin adhesive, in a jig or clamp which holds the layers in the required shape, the whole of the exposed perimetrical edge parts of the unset adhesive layers are secured by a short exposure to radiant heat or infra-red rays, and the balance of the adhesive is then allowed to cold harden. The jig may be removed, after curing the edge portions, and the cold-hardening of the adhesive takes place without the assistance of the jig. The heating may be by gas-fired, radiant-heat, infra-red panels, which may be arranged to form a tunnel along which the work is conveyed. Alternatively the heating panels may be traversed past the work-piece. The synthetic resin adhesive may be urea- or phenol-formaldehyde with a hardener or catalyst. Specification 562,953, [Group VIII], is referred to.
|
