An air-cushion vehicle for operating over a prepared track formed with an upwardlyprojecting flange 4, Fig. 2 (not shown), is supported on each side of the flange by an air cushion enclosed at the sides by skirts 5, the flow of air from one cushion to the other being prevented by a longitudinal member 6 which is inflatable and of varying width along its length, as indicated at 6a to accommodate deviations of the flange 4 from the centre line of the vehicle when the track is curved. Constant depth of member 6 is maintained by internal ties. The cushions are enclosed at each end of the vehicle by a skirt cut out round flange 4 and suspended by a frame 15 (Fig. 4. not shown), pivotally connected to lateral arms 9, 10 and provided with rollers 16 co-operating with the track so that the end skirts may be moved laterally as the vehicle negotiates bends in the track. The member 6 may be replaced by discrete lengths of longitudinal skirt on each side of flange 4 and spaced therefrom to allow for track curvature, Fig. 5 (not shown).</p> |
