Provided is a method for providing an augmented reality-based environment using a portable electronic device. The method of the present invention comprises the steps of: capturing an image of users; recognizing the users in the image; and fetching information associated with the recognized users. Further, the method of the present invention comprises the steps of: determining location of the users in the image; mapping the fetched information associated with the users with the determined location of the users; and communicating with the users based on the mapped information.
