The present invention relates to a use of a methanol extract from Rheum palmatum as a useful ingredient which inhibits the formation of a biofilm caused by microorganisms. The Rheum palmatum used in the present invention is a safe medicinal herb. Provided is a method for safely inhibiting the formation of a biofilm caused by microorganisms in various uses including foods.
