Provided is an image processing device which simultaneously acquires an image containing color characteristics and an image as a stereo camera, and which is capable of image recognition of stereo range objects and color characteristic objects. Also provided is a device for monitoring the area in front of a vehicle. The image processing device comprises: a first imaging means (10) which is capable of condensing visual light; a second imaging means (20) which is capable of condensing infrared light, and which is capable of capturing a field of view that encompasses the field of view of the first imaging means and a common region; and an image recognition means (40) which recognizes an object based on first image information captured by the first imaging means and second image information captured by the second imaging means. The image recognition means is equipped with: an image processing unit (42) which acquires a first image and a second image by correcting the first image information and the second image information, and which performs image recognition as the color characteristic object; and a distance estimation means (43) which performs image recognition as a stereo range object based on the first image and the second image, and estimates the distance. |
