The seating system has a backrest and an actuating unit (12) for adjusting the backrest in its inclination relative to a seat part of the seating system. The actuating unit has a shaft (14) and an actuating element (16), where the shaft is coupled with the backrest. The shaft is driven by the actuating element for adjusting the backrest. An additional actuator (26) is provided for driving the shaft during an accidental force application. A decoupling unit is provided, by which the shaft is decoupled during driving of the shaft by the actuating element.
