PURPOSE: A fuel cell generator and a controlling method thereof can stop the consumption of electricity charged in a battery due to thermal resistance by turning off a second switch if the charged electricity of the battery is reduced below a predetermined standard value. CONSTITUTION: A fuel cell generator comprises a fuel battery part (102) generating electricity by the electrochemical reaction of a fuel and an oxidant; a battery (104) which is electrically connected to the fuel battery part through a first switch (152b) and stores surplus electricity generated in an initial ramp-up region; a heat resistor (112) which is electrically connected to the battery through a second switch (152b); and a controller (106) controlling the second switch in order to consume the charged electricity of the battery through the heat resistor by turning on the second switch if the charged electricity of the battery is over a predetermined standard value.
