Provided is a mechanical seal configured so that a bellows does not deteriorate and rupture and so that a variation in load due to the extension and contraction of the bellows is reduced by reducing the spring constant of the bellows. An inside-type mechanical seal is provided with a sleeve (2, 20) which is affixed to a rotating shaft, and a cartridge (4, 40) which is affixed to a housing (3). The sleeve (2, 20) is provided with a rotating slide ring (5). The cartridge (4, 40) is provided with a stationary slide ring (6) which slides facing the rotating slide ring (5), and a bellows (7, 15, 30) which presses the stationary slide ring (6) in the axial direction. The mechanical seal is characterized in that: the bellows (7, 15, 30) consists of metal; the bellows (7, 15, 30) consisting of metal has one end affixed to a case (8) for holding the stationary slide ring (6), and the other end affixed to the cartridge (4, 40); and the plate thickness of the bellows (7, 15, 30) is set to be less than the plate thickness of either the case (8) or the cartridge (4, 40). |
