The device has a detecting unit for detecting a current position and a current velocity vector of a movement of a vehicle (102) in a road transportation network. An evaluation unit determines whether a POI position (104) of traffic event in a search area i.e. circle sector, is located on the road transportation network. A bisector of a central angle is dependant on amount of velocity, steering angle and greed rate of the vehicle. A control unit determines whether the traffic event in the search area is executed in the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for supporting a rider of a vehicle with navigation in a road transportation network.
