The purpose of the present invention is to provide a mass spectrometer that does not use gas and for which the portion of plasma is small. In the mass spectrometer, the measurement sample solution is introduced into a tubular container having an open end and a closed end so as to fill the internal space thereof. Then an electric field is applied on the filled measurement sample solution to generate gas bubbles (plasma). By growing the generated gas bubbles (plasma) continuously in the direction of the open end and releasing same to the outside from the open end (that is, by giving a directionality to the growth of the gas bubbles (plasma)), ions can be efficiently extracted from inside the container.
