PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide reliable diagnostic tests to detect parvovirus B19 in viremic samples.SOLUTION: This application discloses human parvovirus B19 primers and probes derived from conserved regions of the parvovirus B19 genome. This application also discloses nucleic acid-based assays using the primers and nucleic acid-based assays using the probes. Also disclosed in this application is a method of detecting human parvovirus B19 infection in a biological sample. Also disclosed in this application is a method for amplifying a target human parvovirus B19 nucleotide sequence.
