Provided is a hard film coating tool obtained by having a titanium carbonitride layer formed by direct chemical vapor deposition on a substrate comprising a WC group hard metal alloy, wherein: the titanium carbonitride layer contains 74 to 81% by mass of titanium, 13 to 16% by mass of carbon, and 6 to 10% by mass of nitrogen; the titanium carbonitride layer has a structure comprising columnar crystal grains having a mean transverse cross-sectional diameter of 0.01 to 0.22 μm; the mean thickness of a layer in which W diffuses from the substrate into the titanium carbonitride layer is 30 to 200 nm; and the X-ray diffraction peak position 2&thetas; for the (422) plane of the titanium carbonitride layer is 122.7° to 123.7°. |
