PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a printing method which are capable of detecting an ink residual amount and generating a larger number of printed matters.SOLUTION: A printer includes an input part for inputting a pattern having an optional form and an image; a display part; a printing part; an ink usage amount estimation part for estimating a first ink usage amount to be used for printing the pattern and a second ink usage amount to be used for printing the image; an ink monitor part for monitoring an ink residual amount; and a control part for printing the pattern on a first face of a printing medium, setting printing order of plural printing media in the order of less amount of the first ink usage amount in the case of printing the image on a second face that is the back face of the first face, and displaying, on the display part, the number of printable sheets of the printing media on the basis of the ink residual amount monitored by the ink monitor part and the first and second ink usage amounts estimated by the ink usage amount estimation part. |
